From Ibiza
to the
Norfolk Broads
A 2500 mile journey following a lyric from David Bowie’s Life on Mars?
“From Ibiza…”
In 2016, suffering deep career disillusionment and a hairline in furious retreat, I cycled a David Bowie song lyric, ‘From Ibiza to the Norfolk Broads,’ to find the meaning of mid-life, love and Life on Mars?
THE ROUTE
From Ibiza to the Norfolk Broads. 2500 miles. Seven countries. 10,000 minutes of listening to Bowie. 1178 midges eaten. 73 woefully underbrewed teas. 36 gone wrongs. 14 concert venues. 5 house stalkings. 4 recording studios. 1 face off with a local about Cliff Richard
MEET IGGY
“A good bike should have a good name” said friendly local Yolanda who had kindly fed me super noodles in the midst of Spanish downpour. So meet Iggy. As in Iggy Pop. Bowie’s collaborator, conspirator, hell raiser, friend and now my emaciated buttock carrier.
